Thank you for your Service - Police Horse Jester Retires

Jester was purchased from A Step Above Stables in Blairsville, GA, in March of 2022 with a First Responders grant. A 15-year-old dark bay draft cross, he has spent the last four years working alongside the Mounted Patrol through our mounted training program.

Throughout that time, Jester showed us what a gentle and kind-hearted horse he truly is. While he gave his best effort, he was unable to successfully complete the sensory training portion of the program. Sometimes the job simply isn’t the right fit, and that’s the case for our sweet Jester.

Jester has a wonderful personality and a truly loving nature, and because of that he has earned a well-deserved retirement. He will be enjoying his days ahead at Retired Sergeant Debra Campbell’s property in Elkhorn, Nebraska, where he’ll be able to relax and live the peaceful life he deserves. We are grateful for the time we’ve had with him and wish him many happy years in his new home.

Thank you for your Service - Police Horse Jack Retires

Jack joined the Mounted Patrol in April of 2021 after being purchased from Kaye

Talbitzer in Omaha, Nebraska, through a First Responders Grant. An 18-year-old

black/brown Appaloosa, Jack quickly proved he had the heart and temperament for the

job.

Jack grew up in the Irvington area of Omaha, where his owner—affectionately known as

the “Cowboy of Irvington”—often rode him up to the local Walmart. Because of that

upbringing, Jack was comfortable around people, traffic, and the everyday sights and

sounds of the city. It didn’t take long for him to successfully complete the Mounted Unit’s

training program and become street certified.

Over the past five years, Jack faithfully served on the evening shift, working countless

patrols and assisting at many of Omaha’s largest events. His calm demeanor and

steady presence made him a valued partner to the officer who rode him and a familiar

sight to the community he helped serve.

Due to medical issues, Jack has now earned a well-deserved retirement from the

Mounted Unit. He will be returning home to retire at the property of his original owner,

Kaye Talbitzer, in Omaha. We believe this is a fitting and positive place for Jack to enjoy

his retirement, surrounded by familiar care and the life he knew before his years of

service.

We are grateful for the dedication Jack gave to the unit and the city, and we wish him

many peaceful and happy years ahead.
